Rescheduling of the Opening of Punggol Regional Sport Centre to 2026
Response to parliamentary question on the rescheduling of the Opening of Punggol Regional Sport Centre to 2026.
11 November 2024
PQ 6790. Mr Ong Hua Han: To ask the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth what are the reasons for the rescheduling in the opening of Punggol Regional Sports Centre to 2026.
- The construction of Punggol Regional Sport Centre started in 2020
and was originally scheduled to be opened in 2023. However, the
project, like several others in various sectors, faced multiple challenges
such as material and labour shortages due to the impact of Covid-19 on
the construction industry.
- As a result, the construction progress was significantly delayed,
and the opening of the sport centre had to be delayed to 2026.
- Meanwhile, Punggol residents can use sports facilities in Punggol
under the Dual-Use Scheme. These include four indoor sports halls at
Edgefield Secondary, Greendale Primary, Oasis Primary and Punggol View Primary and the school field at Punggol Secondary. Punggol
residents can also consider using the nearby Sengkang Sport Centre.
